Welcome to the homepage of the ERC Project PROMETHEUS

PROMETHEUS

PROMETHEUS is a research project funded but the European Research Council as a Starting Grant in 2017. The ultimate goal of PROMETHEUS is to develop smart antibacterial medical devices using flame nanoparticle synthesis.

Prometheus in the greek mythology was the titan who gave the gift of flames to mankind. With our ERC project we aspire to use flames as a functional tool to generate sophisticated nanoparticles for their integration in antibacterial medical devices. We aim to tackle two important medical challenges:

  • To develop local treatments against potentially lethal skin infections
  • To develop smart nanoparticle surfaces on implants against infections

PROMETHEUS is hosted at Karolinska Institutet, a biomedical university in Stockholm, Sweden and is under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Georgios A. Sotiriou who is the director of the Bionanomaterial Technology Laboratory at the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology at KI.
